US emphasizes support for women and girls’ rights in Afghanistan and several other countries

Deputy U.S. Representative to the United Nations Tammy Bruce has said Washington remains committed to defending human rights and the economic empowerment of women and girls; She expressed concern about the situation of women in Afghanistan, Haiti, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudan and South Sudan.

Bruce has claimed that over the past five years, the Islamic Emirate has restricted women and girls’ access to job training and professional opportunities, and has eliminated decades of achievements in women’s participation in peace and security.

He emphasized that the United States will continue to support the rights of women and girls within the framework of the “Women for Peace and Security” Act, which was signed into law by Donald Trump in 2017. In contrast, the Islamic Emirate has previously stated that human rights, especially women’s rights, in Afghanistan are now more than ever guaranteed within the framework of Sharia.
