Russia revives infrastructure for reproducing our supersonic Tu-160 bomber

Russia has announced that it has rebuilt the industrial infrastructure needed to resume production of the Tu-160 supersonic strategic bomber, a move that comes more than a decade after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a plan to revive production of the Soviet-era aircraft.

In an interview on October 15, Yuri Abrossimov, head of the Tupolev Corporation, confirmed this development and called it an important step towards resuming production of the bomber. The Tu-160 is one of Russia’s strategic missile carriers.

According to the company’s president, the new design will retain the appearance of the aircraft and its variable geometry wing structure. These wings can be adjusted at angles of 20 to 65 degrees, allowing the aircraft to fly at low and supersonic speeds.
