A California startup called Marathon Fusion has claimed to have succeeded in producing gold using nuclear fusion technology and mercury, an achievement that has once again raised the possibility of turning elements into gold.
However, technical challenges, high facility costs, the need to store radioactive materials, and the production of very small amounts of gold are serious obstacles to the commercialization of this technology.
Studies show that even if this technology advances, limited-scale gold production cannot easily change global supply or reduce the market value of this precious metal.
