Reuters: Trump’s efforts to rein in diesel prices ahead of midterm elections have failed

Reuters reported that despite taking costly measures, the Donald Trump administration has so far failed to curb the rising price of diesel fuel in the United States, an issue that has created an economic and political challenge for Republicans ahead of the midterm elections.

Based on this report, the price of diesel in the United States has increased by nearly 10 cents to an average of $6.28 per gallon and remains near its highest level.

A joint Reuters/Ipsos poll shows that nearly 80 percent of respondents hold Donald Trump responsible for the recent price increases.

The Trump administration has taken steps to rein in prices, including allocating billions of dollars in aid to farmers, easing regulations for truck drivers, easing some restrictions on Russian fuel, and putting pressure on European allies; actions that have been met with criticism.

At the same time, published reports indicate that the price of Brent crude oil has crossed $117 per barrel, an increase that could further pressure the energy market and fuel costs.
