Fire during French protests collapses historic Limoges town hall, 1,200 arrested

The AFP news agency, citing the country’s prime minister, reported that about 1,200 people were arrested and 150 police officers were injured during Saturday’s protests.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that the historic 143-year-old town hall building in the French city of Limoges has collapsed after a fire caused by protests. Further details about the incident and the extent of possible damage are still unclear.

Mass protests took place in France in response to rising costs of living, economic inequality, and the state of public services, leading to clashes in several cities.

The French government has announced the number of participants in these rallies at around 550,000, while organizers have estimated the number of protesters at 800,000.
