The European Union and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) have launched a €5 million program to strengthen the resilience of Afghanistan’s agriculture sector and food systems to climate change and economic shocks.
This program aims to support farmers and agricultural businesses, improve market access, create sustainable incomes, and support vulnerable families, especially women and youth.
Based on this plan, four one-stop service centers will be established, approximately 2,000 hectares of degraded forests and pastures will be restored, and the establishment of 250 nurseries managed by women and local communities will be supported.
FAO continues to provide matching funds, technical and business advice to qualified agribusiness and environmental companies. The aim of this program is to move from humanitarian aid to sustainable solutions for economic growth, food security and the strengthening of rural communities.
