Shanghai Cooperation Organization leaders discuss the situation in Afghanistan
The summit of the heads of state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization is scheduled to be held on September 1, 2026, in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, and the situation in Afghanistan will also be discussed at this meeting.
According to information from the organization’s secretariat, terrorism, drug trafficking, and border-related security concerns will be among the important topics of discussion about Afghanistan, issues that are of particular importance to the countries of the region due to the fact that a number of organization members share borders with Afghanistan.
Afghanistan has observer status in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and the country’s security developments have been an important issue of concern to the organization in recent years.
