Two thieves stole a historic necklace attributed to former Egyptian queen Nazli Sabry from the Vienna Museum of Applied Arts (MAK) in a broad daylight robbery.
The necklace, which has 673 diamonds and weighs more than 200 carats, was displayed in an exhibition of Van Cleef & Arpels jewelry and was sold at a Sotheby’s auction in 2015 for $4.3 million.
After entering the museum as ordinary visitors, two thieves broke the glass of the display case with a hammer and stole the necklace. Austrian police have released images of the suspects and investigations are ongoing to arrest them.
