Eisenkot appointed to form new Israeli cabinet

Israeli President Isaac Herzog has announced, after concluding consultations with political parties, that he will task Gadi Eisenkot, leader of the Yashar party, with forming a new cabinet.

After officially receiving the mandate, Eisenkot has 28 days to reach an agreement with the parties to form a coalition government. This deadline can be extended by another 14 days by the president’s decision.

At the same time, Israeli media reported that Benjamin Netanyahu has called for the formation of a national unity government, but Eisenkot’s party rejected this proposal and called on Netanyahu’s allies to cooperate in forming a government led by Eisenkot.
