A US official told Al Jazeera that the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, along with its task force, has left the San Diego base for the Middle East.
At the same time, the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group is also moving from San Diego to the Middle East, and more than 2,000 US Marines are present in this force.
According to this report, three aircraft carriers and two US amphibious assault groups are scheduled to be deployed in the area around Iran by the end of November.
This military deployment comes as American officials are increasing Washington’s military presence in the Middle East. However, the deployment of these forces does not in itself mean an announcement of a decision for ground operations against Iran.
