The Hamas movement announced in a statement on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian Journalists that more than 262 Palestinian journalists and media activists have been killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza since October 7, 2023.
Hamas has called for increased support for Palestinian journalists and the prosecution of those responsible for attacks against them, calling the killing, arrest, and expulsion of journalists and the destruction of media institutions war crimes and crimes against humanity. The movement has also claimed that foreign journalists are being prevented from entering the Gaza Strip and that restrictions have been imposed on the activities of Palestinian media and the dissemination of their content on social networks.
According to statistics from the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), at least 189 Palestinian journalists have been killed in Gaza during the war as of September 24, 2026. The organization has announced that the total number of journalists and media workers killed in related conflicts is 247.
