The Pentagon’s Inspector General has announced in the first official report on the damages of the war with Iran that Iranian attacks in the first months of the war damaged or destroyed hundreds of buildings and structures at US military bases in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman, and Jordan.
The report, which examined the period from February 28 to June 30, also confirms the reduction in stockpiles of some key US weapons and changes in the way US forces operate in the region; according to the report, CENTCOM has relocated its forces, equipment and storage centers in response to the attacks.
The report also reported heavy damage to the US Naval Regional Center in Bahrain, adding that following these attacks, the island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean has become one of the most important US naval logistics centers.
According to this report, the damage to US diplomatic facilities in the Middle East is estimated at around $184 million, of which around $157 million is related to US diplomatic facilities in Iraq.
Also, by the end of June, about 3,500 US diplomatic staff had left the region, and a number of the country’s embassies were in a state of limited activity.
