NATO fighter jet shoots down unidentified drone in Latvian airspace

An Italian fighter jet serving as part of a NATO mission shot down a drone of unknown origin that had entered Latvian airspace on Friday, the incident coming at the same time as Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian ports.

NATO announced that two Italian Eurofighter jets from Lithuania and two Turkish F-16 jets from Estonia flew to assess the threat, and one of the Eurofighters targeted the drone.

Latvian forces are searching for the remains of a drone in a forested area near the village of Rogaji, about 35 kilometers from the Russian border. NATO and Latvian authorities are investigating its origin.
