Rare solar eclipse brings millions to the streets in Europe

Millions of people in Britain and parts of Europe flocked to watch a rare solar eclipse on Wednesday evening, an event that turned daylight into darkness for minutes.

In Britain, more than 90 percent of the sun was covered by the moon, and in parts of Spain, the sun was completely hidden behind the moon.

The eclipse peaked shortly after 7pm UK time, covering 95% of the sun in Cornwall, the first such event in the UK since 1999.
