According to reports, the United States Department of State has notified Congress of its decision to close five of its diplomatic missions in Grenada, Japan, Indonesia, Cameroon, and Canada.
Reuters reported that the decision includes US missions in St. George’s, Nagoya, Douala and Winnipeg, and is one of the rare cases of simultaneous reductions in the US diplomatic presence abroad.
The US State Department has not confirmed the report, but has said it is focused on maintaining an “efficient and effective” diplomatic network and follows the process of informing Congress in accordance with the law.
