EU invites Islamic Emirate officials to Brussels for talks on Afghan refugees

The European Commission will soon invite officials from the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to Brussels to discuss the deportation of Afghan refugees, AFP reported.

According to this report, a letter is expected to be sent to Kabul soon to set the time for the meeting, and the meeting has been planned in coordination with Sweden. Two European delegations will also travel to Afghanistan before the meeting.

A spokesperson for the European Commission said that the European Union is preparing a technical meeting with Islamic Emirate officials in Brussels, but no specific date has been announced yet.

This move comes as about 20 European Union member states are seeking solutions to return Afghan migrants, especially those with criminal records.

In contrast, human rights organizations and refugee advocacy groups have warned against the deportation of Afghans, emphasizing that returning them to Afghanistan could put many lives at risk, given the existing humanitarian and economic crisis.
