Iran representative: Seizure of ships and naval blockade violate international law

Amir Saeed Iravani, Iran’s representative to the United Nations, announced that the United States’ actions in seizing Iranian ships and imposing a naval blockade are a clear violation of international law.

He emphasized that Iran is committed to maritime security in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Sea of Oman, but US actions have escalated tensions and threatened freedom of navigation.

Iravani added that the responsibility for any disruption to maritime transport in the region lies with the United States and its supporters, and considered these actions to be an example of piracy and a violation of the UN Charter.

He also called on the Security Council to condemn these actions and ensure the immediate release of the ships and their crews.
