EU Special Representative Meets with Afghan Officials in Kabul

During her five-day visit to Kabul, EU Special Representative for Afghanistan Gilles Bertrand met with officials of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, members of the diplomatic community of UN representatives and international organizations, as well as civil society activists.

The European Union has issued a statement saying that the meetings reviewed the overall security situation in Afghanistan and the region, and many parties have spoken of the improvement in public order in recent years.

Based on this, the EU Special Representative also discussed with Islamic Emirate officials the progress in the fight against ISIS Khorasan branch.

At the same time, Gilles Bertrand has expressed the union’s concern about the presence and cross-border activities of terrorist groups and the possibility of their spread.

Regarding tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, he also emphasized the importance of reducing tensions, exercising restraint, and protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure, and called for the resumption of dialogue between the two countries.
