Increasing detention and forced deportation of Afghan migrants in Pakistan
Pakistan has increased its arbitrary arrests of police officers and forced deportations of Afghan migrants since tensions with Afghanistan escalated, Human Rights Watch said in a new report.
According to this report, thousands of Afghan refugees, especially women and children, are facing serious problems in accessing health services, education, and other basic needs.
More than 146,000 Afghan migrants will be deported in 2026 alone, and the process of deportations has intensified since April, the agency said.
Human Rights Watch has also warned that many returnees, especially journalists and activists, face the risk of persecution, torture and death threats, and that this process could violate Pakistan’s international obligations.
