Pakistan-Afghanistan Peace Jirga in Peshawar Calls for End to Clashes and Resolve Disputes Through Dialogue
Participants in the Pakistan-Afghanistan Peace Jirga held in Peshawar on Tuesday (1th of April ) called on the governments of Pakistan and Afghanistan to immediately stop the ongoing clashes along the hypothetical Durand Line and resolve their differences through dialogue and diplomacy.
The jirga was organized by the Aspire Foundation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the National Reform Movement, and brought together religious political leaders, business representatives, and the media.
Pointing to shared religious, cultural, and social ties, the speakers emphasized that continued conflict would have serious consequences for the people on both sides of the border and that both countries should prioritize diplomatic channels.
The participants in the joint declaration called for an immediate ceasefire, its strict implementation, and ensuring that each other’s territory is not used against the other.
They emphasized that war is not the solution and that lasting peace can only be achieved through negotiation, mutual respect, and shared understanding.
The Jirga also called for the establishment of a permanent platform for sustainable interaction, improved communication, and trust-building between the two countries, and announced that this platform would be expanded to include broader political, religious, and social leadership at the national level.
