Hercules C-130 military plane crashes in Colombia, 66 dead, 4 missing
According to reports, a C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft manufactured by Lockheed Martin crashed on Monday, April 23, 2014, while taking off from the city of Puerto Legazpi, near the border with Peru.
The plane had 128 passengers, including 11 air force members, 115 army soldiers, and two national police officers.
Reports indicate that the plane first hit an obstacle, then one of its wings hit a tree, and then caught fire. The explosives on the plane also exploded, which increased the severity of the incident.
As a result of this tragic accident, 66 people died, 57 were rescued, and four are still missing.
Colombia’s Defense Minister announced that the root cause of the crash is still unknown and that technical and judicial investigations are ongoing.
