Widespread reactions to deadly Pakistani attack on Kabul drug addict hospital
The International Human Rights Foundation (IHRF) strongly condemned the Pakistani regime’s airstrike on a drug treatment center in eastern Kabul, calling it a clear violation of human rights principles and international law. The foundation called for an independent international investigation, accountability of the perpetrators, and immediate protection of health centers.
Richard Bennett, the UN Special Rapporteur on human rights in Afghanistan, expressed deep concern about reports of civilian casualties and called on all parties to exercise restraint and respect international law, especially the protection of civilians and health facilities.
Manzoor Pashteen, leader of the Pashtun Protection Movement, called the attack “a crime of Punjabi colonialism and terrorism,” and said the movement stands with the people of Afghanistan and plans to bring their voices to the world. He called on Pakistani scholars to be ashamed of the bodies of patients in Kabul.
Former US peace envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad called the killing of around 400 civilians the result of Pakistan’s brutal attacks and called on the international community to condemn this crime and provide humanitarian assistance to the victims. He also called on the Pakistani people to be dissatisfied with the inhumane decisions of the military regime’s leadership.
Afghan cricket star Rashid Khan described the targeting of the hospital as a war crime and said such acts during the month of Ramadan are painful and shocking; he called on the United Nations and human rights organizations to seriously investigate this tragedy and hold the perpetrators accountable.
