In an interview with Fox News, Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff claimed that in negotiations with Iran, the US proposal to suspend uranium enrichment for 10 years in exchange for payment for nuclear fuel was completely rejected by the Iranian negotiating team.
He added that Iran began the negotiations by emphasizing its “indisputable right” to enrich uranium and showed no flexibility in this regard.
Whittaker also claimed that this categorical denial demonstrates that Iran’s true goal is to maintain its enrichment program for weapons purposes, not purely peaceful purposes.
These statements come at a time when indirect or direct negotiations between the parties have become more complicated in light of recent military tensions and reciprocal attacks.
