Iran’s Expediency Discernment Council appoints Sheikh Alireza Aarafi as member of the Transitional Leadership Council

Iran’s Expediency Discernment Council has appointed Sheikh Alireza Aarafi, one of the Guardian Council’s jurists, as a member of the Transitional Leadership Council.

According to Article 111 of the Iranian Constitution, this council consists of three members: the president, the head of the judiciary, and one of the jurists of the Guardian Council, who is elected by the Expediency Discernment Council.

The Interim Leadership Council will assume the duties and powers of leadership until the new Leader of the Islamic Revolution is determined and elected.

Sheikh Aarafi, who was appointed as a member of the Guardian Council’s jurists in 1401 by the decree of the former Leader of the Revolution, Ayatollah Khamenei, is now entering the Transitional Leadership Council as a representative of the council’s jurists.

This decision was made in a situation where Iran has entered a critical stage of interim leadership management following the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
