Venezuela’s interim president calls on Trump to lift sanctions and blockade, “a prospect of friendship with Washington”
In recent statements, Venezuelan interim President Delcy Rodriguez called on US President Donald Trump to immediately lift the economic sanctions and blockade imposed on the country.
Rodriguez, who took over the country after the arrest and ouster of former Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, called the United States and Venezuela “friends” and said, “Our country has the prospect of opening a new page of cooperation with Washington.”
He emphasized that the continuation of sanctions and restrictive measures has directly negatively affected the Venezuelan people, especially the young generation, and has placed the burden of the economic crisis on the shoulders of citizens.
This request comes as the Trump administration has so far continued its policy of maximum pressure against Caracas and has maintained oil and financial sanctions as the main tools for changing the behavior of the Venezuelan government.
Rodriguez also expressed hope that the lifting of sanctions would allow for constructive economic and political cooperation between the two countries.
