The United States paid $160 million of its $4 billion debt to the United Nations
Reuters reported, citing a UN spokesman, that the United States has paid about $160 million of its more than $4 billion in accumulated debt to the UN’s regular budget.
This payment is part of past US debts to the United Nations and was made at a time when Washington remains the organization’s largest financial debtor.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump hosted the first meeting of his Peace Board initiative, a plan that experts have warned could weaken the role and standing of the United Nations in resolving global conflicts and affect the structure of multilateral diplomacy.
A UN spokesperson has not yet provided further details on the timing of future payments or the impact of this action on US-UN relations.
