Pakistan allows Afghan transit cargo from Chaman and Quetta to Karachi ports

Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) announced that Afghan transit trade shipments that were stuck in Chaman and Quetta for months can now be moved to Karachi and Qasim ports for re-export.

The Express Tribune reported that the main border ports between Pakistan and Afghanistan were closed from October 10, 2025 (18) Mizan (1404) due to border clashes, and Afghan transit trade from Karachi ports was suspended.

The FBR emphasized in a statement that “reverse transfer” of all stranded shipments for re-export is permitted and this operation will be carried out under the close supervision of customs officers.

According to the new guidelines, transport companies must submit a formal request, and each convoy will consist of a maximum of 15 vehicles, accompanied by a customs officer.

The prolonged suspension of transit trade in recent months has caused heavy losses to Afghan and Pakistani traders, with thousands of containers stranded at the Karachi port.
