Kim Jong-un to announce new phase of strengthening independent defense at 9th Workers’ Party Congress
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un announced that new military and construction goals will be set during the 9th Congress of the Workers’ Party of Korea, marking a new stage in strengthening self-reliant defense.
The official KCNA news agency reported that Kim Jong Un presented 50 600mm multiple rocket launchers to the party congress at a special ceremony on Wednesday (February 18), stressing that these weapons are no different from precision ballistic missiles in terms of accuracy and power and are suitable for strategic missions.
Kim added that the process of modernizing military capabilities to counter external threats will accelerate, and the 9th Workers’ Party Congress, North Korea’s largest political gathering, is likely to begin on Thursday or Friday of this week.
The congress will be held at a time when North Korea has focused in recent years on developing advanced weapons, including long-range multiple rockets and ballistic missiles, and considers it part of a strategy of independent defense against external pressures.
