Guterres: Fossil fuel dependency is the biggest threat to global stability
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres described the world’s dependence on fossil fuels as one of the greatest threats to global stability and prosperity.
Guterres wrote on the social network X on Wednesday night that to address this challenge, a dedicated global platform must be created to develop a fair, orderly, and affordable plan for the transition away from fossil fuels.
He emphasized that this program must be fully aligned with the goal of limiting global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius and help various countries on the path to transitioning to clean energy.
The UN Secretary-General added that the transition to clean energy must be carried out in such a way that it becomes “unstoppable and there is no turning back.”
