US Commerce Secretary Admits to Being on Easton Island, Emails Show Communications Post-2005
US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick admitted on Tuesday local time that he had lunch on Jeffrey Eastin’s private island in 2012, facing mounting pressure to resign.
Lutnik strongly denied any closer relationship or friendship with convicted sex offender Epstein, saying the meeting was merely a luncheon and there was no long-term personal or business relationship.
However, the email exchange in the newly released files related to the Eastin case calls into question Lutnick’s previous claim that he had completely cut off all contact with Eastin since 2005, and shows that the contacts continued into the following years.
So far, the Donald Trump administration has fully supported Lutnick, and White House spokeswoman Carolyn Levitt announced that President Trump fully supports the Secretary of Commerce and there are no plans to change the position.
