“The largest evening funeral in Libyan history” Saadi Gaddafi won the election on the death of his brother
Saadi Gaddafi, one of Muammar Gaddafi’s sons, made sharp and emotional statements about the funeral of his brother Saif al-Islam Gaddafi in the city of Bani Walid, saying, “In your death, you won the Libyan elections. This ceremony is a national referendum.”
He described the massive ceremony as the largest funeral in the history of Libya, emphasizing that the large turnout at the ceremony reflects the popularity and acceptance of the Gaddafi family, and especially Saif al-Islam, among a significant portion of Libyan society.
The funeral of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, which was held a few days ago in the city of Bani Walid, was attended by thousands of people from different walks of life, and became one of the largest public gatherings since the fall of the Gaddafi regime.
Saadi Gaddafi’s statements have received widespread coverage on Libyan social media and media outlets, reflecting the continuing deep political and social divides in the country.
