Russia’s massive attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure causes power outages in most areas

Ukraine’s Minister of Water and Energy announced that Russia had launched a massive attack on the country’s energy facilities and infrastructure in the early hours of Saturday, February 8.

According to Ukrainian officials, these combined attacks, likely involving drone missiles and other weapons, targeted various parts of the grid, power plants and energy facilities across the country.

The Ukrainian power company (Ukrenergo) also confirmed that following these heavy attacks, the power grid in most regions of the country has been temporarily and urgently disconnected to prevent further damage and complete collapse.

Ukrainian sources have described the operation as one of the largest Russian-led strikes on the entire territory of Ukraine, and announced that a state of emergency has been declared in the energy sector and efforts are underway to restore the network.
