Complete withdrawal of American forces from Ain al-Assad base; full control handed over to the Iraqi army

The Iraqi Ministry of Defense announced that US forces have completely left the Ain al-Assad military base in the western province of Anbar, and full control of it has been handed over to the Iraqi armed forces.

This action was taken within the framework of a bilateral agreement between Baghdad and Washington to end the presence of the US-led international coalition in Iraq.

According to the initial plan, the presence of coalition forces at the Ain al-Assad base was to continue until September 2026, but American officials informed their Iraqi counterparts of the acceleration of the withdrawal process.

Iraqi officials have confirmed that all American equipment has been removed from the base and that no American troops remain there, although some reports indicated a limited presence of advisers in the early stages.

Its complete handover to the Iraqi army is considered an important step towards strengthening Iraq’s national sovereignty and transferring security responsibilities to the country’s internal forces.
