Trump receives Nobel Peace Prize from Maria Corina Machado, a symbolic gift from Venezuelan opposition leader

US President Donald Trump has finally won the Nobel Peace Prize, but not from the Nobel Committee, but as a symbolic gift from Maria Corina Machado, a prominent leader of the opposition to the government of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela.

According to Reuters, Machado, who received the Nobel Peace Prize last year (2025), presented the award to Trump as a symbolic and protest gift.

The Nobel Peace Committee had previously explicitly stated that the Nobel Peace Prize cannot be transferred or awarded to another person and is awarded only to the original recipient.

However, Machado, with this symbolic act, presented Trump with a physical award (medal or document) to show his support for Trump’s policies towards Venezuela and pressure on the Maduro government.

This event occurs at a time when Maria Corina Machado is one of the main figures opposing the Venezuelan government and has been banned from acting and under severe pressure by the Maduro government in recent years due to her political activities and role in anti-government protests.

He received the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to achieve the rights of the Venezuelan people and peacefully fight against tyranny.

Trump, in response to the gift, described it as a sign of “global support for the fight for freedom” and said that the symbolic award gives him more motivation to continue pressuring the Venezuelan government.
