Venezuela denies US drug trafficking allegations, 7 tons of drugs seized since the beginning of the year
Venezuela’s Interior Minister has firmly rejected United States accusations of the Caracas government’s role in drug trafficking, stressing that the country’s security forces are seriously combating this phenomenon.
According to international media reports, the Venezuelan Minister of Interior announced that since the beginning of the new year, the country’s security and law enforcement forces have succeeded in discovering and seizing more than seven tons of various drugs.
He considered this statistic a sign of the Venezuelan government’s serious determination to combat drug trafficking, saying: “The US accusations against Venezuela in this regard are completely baseless and part of a political pressure campaign against our country.”
These statements come at a time when the United States has repeatedly accused the government of Nicolas Maduro in recent years of supporting or condoning the activities of drug cartels and has imposed sanctions in this regard.
Venezuela has always denied these accusations, calling them a tool to justify interference in the country’s internal affairs.
