Greenland’s annexation bill as the 51st US state introduced to Congress

According to an official statement from the United States House of Representatives, a bill titled “Admitting Greenland to the United States as the Fifty-First State and Granting It Independence” has been submitted to the US Congress.

Greenland, currently part of the Kingdom of Denmark, has been a subject of interest to American officials for many years.

During his various terms as president, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly proposed purchasing or annexing the island, emphasizing Greenland’s strategic importance to US national security, controlling Arctic sea routes, and countering the influence of global rivals.

This bill comes at a time when US relations with Denmark have been strained repeatedly in recent years due to Trump’s statements.

The Danish government had previously called proposals to buy or transfer sovereignty over Greenland “non-negotiable” and “insulting.”
