Trump signs order to withdraw US from 66 international organizations
The White House announced that US President Donald Trump signed a presidential memorandum on Wednesday (January 7, 2026) according to which the United States will withdraw from 66 international organizations that no longer serve the country’s interests.
According to the White House announcement published on the organization’s official X page, 35 of these are non-UN organizations and 31 are affiliated or subordinate to the UN. This includes withdrawal from key treaties such as the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
The Trump administration has accused these organizations of promoting radical climate policies, global governance, and ideological agendas that are contrary to American sovereignty and economic power. The decision is part of its “America First” policy, and consideration of exiting more organizations is ongoing.
