Zelensky says peace deal with Russia is 90% ready

In his New Year’s message to the people of his country, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that Kiev wants an end to the war with Russia, but “not at any cost, not at the cost of giving up Ukrainian territory.”

Zelensky, who had returned to Kyiv after a long trip, announced that the peace agreement was 90 percent ready; the remaining 10 percent would determine the fate of peace between Ukraine and Europe.

He added that Ukraine is fighting for peace and wants a heavenly, peaceful earthly peace in 2026, and the return of all people from the front and captivity.

Referring to the people’s fatigue from nearly four years of war, the Ukrainian president stated that any weak agreement would only inflame the war and that he would only sign a strong and lasting agreement.

Zelensky stressed that those who think that Ukraine is ready to surrender are mistaken, and that Kiev will never give up its territory.

These statements come at a time when the US-brokered peace talks have made significant progress.
