Xi Jinping: Cross-Strait Unity Is Unstoppable
In his 2026 New Year’s message, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized that “the reunification of the motherland on both sides of the Taiwan Strait is unstoppable.”
In his speech in Yekan, Xi Jinping stated that the Chinese people on both sides of the Strait have blood and kinship ties and that the reunification of China is certain.
These statements come as the recent large-scale Chinese military exercise around Taiwan to simulate a siege of the island continues to make headlines, with the Chinese Ministry of Defense describing it as a “serious warning to separatist forces.”
Tensions in the region have increased due to the positions of the United States and its allies, especially Washington’s arms sales to Taiwan.
China has always considered Taiwan an integral part of its territory and has warned the West against interfering in the island’s affairs.
The Chinese president also stressed the unwavering implementation of the one country, two systems policy in Hong Kong and Macau, and expressed support for the two special administrative regions to better integrate into the country’s overall development and maintain long-term prosperity and stability.
