Consuming fruits containing vitamin C rejuvenates the skin
Research from the University of Otago in New Zealand shows that daily consumption of fruits rich in vitamin C, such as kiwi, can help rejuvenate and improve skin health.
In this study, participants consumed two golden kiwis daily for eight weeks, which resulted in increased skin thickness, greater collagen production, faster regeneration of the epidermal layer, and increased skin clarity.
Researchers explained that vitamin C penetrates all layers of the skin through the bloodstream and improves its function, while topical products are less effective due to low absorption of this vitamin.
Professor Marguerite Vissers, the lead author of the study, recommended that a daily intake of about 250 mg of vitamin C (equivalent to five servings of a variety of fruits and vegetables) is sufficient to maintain optimal levels of this vitamin in the blood and skin.
