Tbilisi becomes chaotic; massive opposition rally in the center of the Georgian capital

The Georgian capital once again became the scene of a massive rally by opponents of the ruling government.

Thousands of opposition activists and supporters marched towards the parliament building on Saturday evening, waving the flags of the European Union and Georgia.

The protest first began near the Tbilisi Concert Hall and then continued as a large march in the city center.

Protesters chanted slogans against the government and called for a change in the ruling policies.

This rally is being held at a time when Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, recently accused the leaders of European countries of “deviating from the will of the peoples of Europe” and defended the actions of the ruling Georgian Dream party.

He emphasized that the party’s policies in recent years have been “correct and well-considered.”

The recent protests in Georgia are largely rooted in disagreements over the country’s foreign policy, particularly relations with the European Union and Russia.
