Passenger bus falls into valley in western Guatemala, at least 15 dead, 19 injured

Local authorities in Guatemala announced that at least 15 people were killed and 19 others were injured after a passenger bus fell into a deep ravine in the west of the country.

Al Jazeera reported that the incident occurred yesterday in an area known as “Alaska Peak” in the province of Tetonikapan, a mountainous region with rugged terrain and thick fog that often reduces drivers’ visibility.

The bus was traveling from Guatemala City to the province of San Marcos, near the Mexican border, when for unknown reasons it veered off the road and fell into a ravine about 75 meters deep.

Among the victims were 11 men, three women and a child, and the injured were taken to nearby hospitals.

This is the second similar fatal accident in 2025. Earlier this year, another bus crash on the outskirts of Guatemala City left more than 50 dead and dozens injured.
