Heavy Russian attacks on Kiev ahead of Zelensky-Trump meeting
As a possible meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump approaches, Russia has launched heavy airstrikes on the Ukrainian capital and surrounding areas.
The Ukrainian Air Force announced that Russian drones targeted Kiev’s northeastern and southern regions of the country.
As air defense systems were activated, multiple explosions were heard in Kiev, and the Ukrainian military warned on its Telegram channel that missiles were flying and deploying.
The airstrike warning in the capital lasted for more than four hours, with no immediate reports of serious damage, casualties or widespread power outages.
The attacks come as speculation has grown about possible peace talks brokered by Trump, and Moscow has previously warned against any agreement without Russia’s direct presence.
