EU allocates 90 billion euros in loans to Ukraine

EU member states have agreed to provide Ukraine with €90 billion in loans in 2026-2027.

European Council President Antonio Costa announced the news, saying the loan would be secured by an EU budget guarantee to cover Kiev’s urgent financial needs.

According to a statement from the Council of the European Union, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic will not participate in the financing of this loan.

This aid comes as the European Union and the G7 have frozen more than €200 billion of Russian foreign exchange reserves since the start of the war, mostly held in accounts with the Belgian company Euroclear.

The Central Bank of Russia recently filed a lawsuit against Euroclear worth over 2.8 trillion rubles.
