Trump adds 7 new countries, including Syria, to US travel ban list

US President Donald Trump has added seven countries and regions to the list of countries and regions banned from traveling to the United States, including Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan, Syria, as well as holders of travel documents issued by the Palestinian Authority.

This executive order, issued on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, prohibits or restricts the entry of citizens of these countries and territories into the United States for security reasons, lack of cooperation in information sharing, and concerns about terrorism.

This action is an expansion of the strict immigration policies of Trump’s first term.

The White House called the ban necessary to protect national security and claimed that the added countries were not cooperating sufficiently with security reviews.

The US State Department emphasized that these restrictions are temporary and can be lifted as conditions improve.
