Germany delivers two Patriot systems and ninth Iris-T to Ukraine

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that Berlin has transferred two American Patriot air defense systems and a ninth Iris-T system to the Ukrainian army.

“We have significantly strengthened Ukraine’s air defense, in particular with the delivery of the two Patriot systems that we promised in August, which was made possible thanks to the cooperation of partners such as Norway, as well as the ninth Iris-T system,” Pistorius stressed in a statement.

The Iris-T system is an infrared-guided air defense missile developed in the late 1990s under German leadership and with the participation of Italy, Sweden, Greece, Norway, and Spain.

The aid comes as US efforts to end the war in Ukraine continue, and Germany, one of Kiev’s largest military backers, has increased its commitments.
