US President Donald Trump announced that he had “long and very good” talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders, adding: “We are closer than ever to ending the war in Ukraine.”
Trump, who joined a dinner meeting with US and European negotiators in Berlin remotely, stressed the need to bring Moscow and Kiev closer together and praised the strong support of European leaders for ending the war.
He has also had several conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The remarks come as talks in Berlin involving Trump envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Zelensky, and European leaders have shown progress on NATO-like security guarantees for Ukraine, but differences over territorial issues remain.
