German Foreign Minister says acceptance of Afghan refugees in Pakistan is a priority and will be completed by the end of the year

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadfohl expressed deep concern over the situation of Afghan refugees in Pakistan and stressed that receiving them is now a priority for the government.

He called for the rapid completion of inspections and evacuation flights from Pakistan.

In a recent statement, Wadful announced that Afghans who have received a legal commitment to resettle in Germany must be transferred to Germany by the end of 2025.

He added: “The necessary checks and flights are now underway rapidly, and he expressed hope that this process will be completed by the end of this year, because from the beginning of 2026, the risk of these people being deported from Pakistan to Afghanistan will increase.”

These statements come as thousands of Afghan refugees, including former local employees of German institutions (Ortskrafte) and vulnerable people, have been waiting in Pakistan for months for visas and transfers to Germany.
