Deadly fire in Jakarta kills 22 at Japanese company office
At least 22 people have been killed in a fire that broke out in a seven-story building in central Jakarta, police said.
“The fire started on the first floor around 12 noon on Sunday and quickly spread to the upper floors. The fire has now been contained and the bodies of the victims have been taken to hospital for identification,” Central Jakarta police chief Susatio Purnomo Kunder told Reuters.
The building housed the Indonesian office of Terra Drone, a subsidiary of Japanese company Terra Drone Corporation, a company that provides aerial drone services for the mining and agriculture sectors.
The incident comes two weeks after a deadly fire at a high-rise apartment complex in Hong Kong that killed more than 160 people.
