Powerful eruption of Kilauea volcano in Hawaii, lava shot up to 300 meters
Kilauea volcano, one of the world’s most active volcanoes on the island of Hawaii, erupted again, simultaneously spewing hot lava from three magma chambers to a height of approximately 300 meters (1,000 feet) into the air.
According to the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory of the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the eruption, known as episode 38 in a series of continuous eruptions since December 23, 2024, began on Saturday, December 6, 2025, and is currently confined to the Halema’uma’u crater within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
Lava fountains are erupting from several active vents in the crater, and lava flows are filling parts of the floor of Kaluapele crater.
Officials have warned that high levels of volcanic gases such as sulfur dioxide (SO2) and water vapor could have widespread impacts on public health and air quality in downstream areas.
